It's still jank-souls - so it's basically janky as all western souls-like games to date. It's obviously a lot better than Thymesia, but could be still better. All you find are basically just consumables and materials. I think exploration is very uneven - basically some areas have almost no new weapons to find, and generally you barely find any usable clothing after first area - so sense of discovery gets quite mediocre later on. Lastly I think enemies and especially bosses should have higher attack diversity and more complex combos - it's just mostly individual attacks with abysmally big openings, so for souls veteran it fairs no challenge. I've invested literally no points in VGR and I feel like having plenty of HP for any encounter (I'm closing to an end). I'm trying not to use grenades because of how OP those are but I'm obviously won't choose to die with a healing item in my pocket. Partially this is due too many healing items and grenades found in the world (and I'm not even talking that you can buy ton more). I think it's a bit too easy - with all the difficulty adjustment options available, the base level should be more difficult. It just doesn't come close neither in scope nor quality and asking price is fairly similar. It's just much less content, less polished content, far less diversity and less replay value. Obviously I got a cheaper key from GamesPlanet UK, but you can also get cheaper Elden Ring keys, which is why I'm comparing base Steam pricing (which is normally my preferred option because of refund ability). And it was absolutely right choice, however there are some issues that I see with Steelrising holding it back:įirst of all price - 50€ is too much for jank-souls game when Elden Ring costs just 10€ more. I've been deciding between Thymesia and Steelrising and went for latter one because it has greater weapon diversity and better sense of building a character.
